Make Sure You Comply with Uniform Requirements
When it comes to jerseys requirements, you can print pretty much anything you want on them; however, there are some things that are definitely not recommended, including:
- Profanity
- Anything that references sex
- References drug or alcohol use
- Derogatory language or graphics
If you do not abide by these rules, which are set forth by the USAU, there is a good chance that your team will be disqualified. Though they are really only enforced for teams that play at higher levels, it’s still a wise idea to adhere to them when designing your custom jerseys or sports gear.
Steer Clear of Trademark Infringement
You are also going to want to avoid infringing anything that has been trademarked. For example, you shouldn’t use a copyrighted logo – like Nike or some other major copyrighted logo or motto – on your gear. If you do, the company that copyrighted the logo can ask you to stop wearing the gear, at best; at worst, you could face legal trouble and be forced to pay hefty fines or pay the company for using their trademark.
If you do want to use a logo or motto from a major company, make sure you modify it so that it is clearly different from the original.
