Ghoulies (1985), Critters (1986), and Munchies (1987) might not have been made if not for the success of Gremlins (1984). In its first year, Gremlins made $148,168,459 at the box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of 1984.
The people behind Critters, Ghoulies, and Munchies may have wanted to get rich or share their art. Either way, they gained a strong cult following.
While we discovered several different t-shirt designs for sale for Critters and Ghoulies, we only found a few for Munchies. Munchies is the least well-known Gremlins horror-comedy knockoff—at least on this shortlist.
We think it deserves its own retro t-shirt design. Critters has 41k ratings on IMDb, Ghoulies has 11k ratings on IMDb, but Munchies has just 2.3k ratings on IMDb.
Not surprising that there aren’t more available for it already. Not much fanbase exists, and sellers might not even know about the movie. Many reasons exist why there aren’t more already, but we think Munchies deserves a lot more.
It might be the lowest-rated movie on our shortlist but has a highly dedicated cult following. Like the other two, it’s a so-bad-it’ s-good movie. Don’t let the low rating fool you. This one is worth the effort of making a T-shirt design for.
The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974)
The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974) is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed and culturally significant Fritz the Cat (1972). The Online Film Critic’s Society ranked Fritz the Cat as one of the top 100 greatest animated films of all time.
The first film and sequel are fantastic, adult, animated black comedy films. But when we looked for t-shirt designs for The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, we couldn’t find many. We did see quite a few for Fritz the Cat (1972), though.
Create Your Own The Time Masters (1982) T-shirt Designs
Fantastic Planet (1973) is a mind-bending, surreal, and unbelievably good animated film. It has a 7.7 rating on IMDb. The director has two other lesser-known films, though, and they don’t get nearly enough love.
He came out with The Time Masters in 1982 and Gandahar in 1987. While many Fantastic Planet t-shirts are online, we couldn’t find any for the other two films. This makes for the perfect reason to create your own.
When we searched for Gandahar, though, we turned up a lot of t-shirts. When trying to find a t-shirt design for The Time Masters, we had no luck. We found some related to the Masters Golf Tournament and the Masters of the Universe TV show.
What we didn’t see were t-shirt designs for the movie itself. They ideally would have featured the striking and surreal visual art style the movie had. Moebius did the artwork for the film. Maybe the rights holders to The Time Masters should put out some t-shirt designs.
They could even incorporate some of the original artwork from the movie. A serious fan base exists that would appreciate the opportunity to purchase at least one t-shirt.
